Eine verrückte Exfreundin die ihr Leben aufgibt um in eine Kleinstadt zu ziehen, nur damit sie ihren Ex stalken kann, weil sie auf ewig mit ihm zusammen sein möchte? Ja, so fängt es an, aber die Serie Crazy Ex Girlfriend geht wesentlich weiter und behandelt in ihren 4 Staffeln viele ernsthaftere Themen verpackt in eine unterhaltende Show mit vielen Musicaleinlagen. Und genau diese Musicalnummern sind wohl der größte USP der Serie. Die Schauspieler singen hier lustige oder ernsthaftere Songs über Themen wie Sex während der Menstruation ("Period Sex" (Season 2)), Antidepressiva ("Anti-Depressants Are So Not A Big Deal" (Season 4)) oder das Generalisieren von Vorurteilen ("Let's Generalize About Men" (Season 3)). Viele dieser Songs sind auf Youtube u.ä. zu finden und sind für die Fans der Serie das Highlight, das morgens zum Frühstückskaffee gepfiffen wird.
Ich möchte die Story über die 4 Seasons nicht vorwegnehmen, daher werde ich hier nur wenig darauf eingehen. Im Kern begleitet die Serie Rebecca Bunch - jene Crazy Ex - die zunächst vordergründig ihren Ex für sich gewinnen will, im Laufe der Serie aber erkennt, dass sie tieferliegende Probleme hat mit denen sie sich selbst oft weigert umzugehen. Ausgehend von ihrer Arbeitsstelle als Anwältin stoßen weitere Figuren dazu die jeweils eigene Probleme in ihrem Leben haben und/oder in Zusammenspiel mit Rebecca. Geschiedene Ehen, Non-hetero Sexualität, Versagensängste, you name it. Für mich ist der offene Umgang mit all diesen Problemen die größte Stärke in der Message dieser Serie. Niemand hat "keine Probleme". Aber offen damit umzugehen räumt viel Kummer aus der Welt.
Und dazu noch äußerst lustige Musicalnummern über Themen, die sonst niemand mit der Kneifzange anfässt? Aber hallo! 8/10

At its core the series accompanies Rebecca Bunch - the Crazy Ex - who initially wants to win over her ex, but in the course of the series realizes that she has deeper problems with which she often refuses to deal with herself. Starting from her job as a lawyer, other characters come across each with their own problems in their lives and / or in cooperation with Rebecca. Divorced marriages, non-heterosexual sexuality, fear of failure, you name it. For me, dealing with all of these problems openly is the greatest strength in the message of this series. Nobody has "no problems". But dealing with it openly clears a lot of heartache.
And also extremely funny musical numbers on topics that nobody else touches with the pliers? But hello! 8/10
